Urban: Ever since the Central Station of Amsterdam is build the city has turned its back towards the main waterfront ‘IJ’. IJpark attempts to reverse this by planning a zone for non-motorized traffic and open spaces forming a promenade along the river front.
Architecture: Several buildings activate the public spaces and add to the city vibrancy of this central location. They are positioned to frame the panoramic views along the meandering IJ.
Landscape: The open spaces link to the green ‘scheggen’ of Amsterdam. In contrast to the city side of the station IJpark offers pleasant public space for the residents of Amsterdam.
Sustainability: IJpark intends to link the green corridors of the city to the water whilst offering open space for the people.
